Dr. Bourgeois was born in Gulfport, Mississippi and raised in Picayune, Mississippi. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1987 and the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in May 1991. He received his commission as a Lieutenant in the Dental Corps, United States Navy in January 1993.

Dr. Bourgeois first reported to Naval Dental Center Charleston, South Carolina in April 1993. While assigned to NDC Charleston he rotated through all dental specialties in preparation for his next assignment. He then reported to the then San Diego based USS JUNEAU (LPD 10) as Dental Officer in April 1994. While assigned to JUNEAU, he earned his Combat Information Center Watch Officer, Officer of the Deck, Surface Warfare Officer, Command Duty Officer and Tactical Action Officer qualifications. He also completed two WESTPAC deployments in USS JUNEAU.

In June 1996, Dr. Bourgeois reported to Naval Dental Center San Diego, California for duty as Division Officer, General Dentistry Department. He then took responsibility as Branch Director, Branch Dental Clinics Fleet Industrial Supply Center San Diego, Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach, California, and Naval Air Facility El Centro, California.

Dr. Bourgeois was selected for Federal Training Out Service and entered the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center San Antonio, Texas in July 1998. Based on his performance during his initial three years, he was selected as the service’s Administrative Chief Resident in his final year in the program.

In July 2002, Dr. Bourgeois reported to National Naval Medical Center as Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery staff, USNS Comfort Detachment. He deployed to the North Arabian Gulf in USNS Comfort T-AH-20 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He additionally served as Faculty, National Capital Consortium Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency. In August 2005, Dr. Bourgeois reported to the San Diego based, USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) where he served as Department Head, Dental Department and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He deployed once again to the Northern Arabian Gulf while in NIMITZ.

In August 2006, Dr. Bourgeois resigned his Commission in the United States Navy and joined the faculty at University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, Texas as a Clinical Assistant Professor. In December 2007, Dr. Bourgeois assumed duties as Chief, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, South Texas Veterans Medical Center, Audie L. Murphy Division.

In October 2010, he assumed duties as Chief, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Syracuse New York Veterans Affairs Medical Center.  In December 2013, he assumed duties as Chief, Dental Service, Syracuse, New York Veterans Affairs Medical Center.  He retired from VA in January 2022 after 29 years of Federal Service.  He is an Associate in Syracuse Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.  He is also Clinical Instructor, St. Joseph’s Health System, Department of Surgery, Dental Division.  He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a former member and Co-Chair of the Certification Maintenance Section of the Examination Committee of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.  He currently serves as a Regional Advisor, Region 1 (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont) for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.  He is a Diplomate of the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology.  He is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the New York State Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American College of Dentists, and American Dental Society of Anesthesiology.  He is a member of the American Dental Association, New York State Dental Association, Fifth District Dental Society, Onondaga County Dental Society, American Dental Education Association.  He has served on the Board of Directors and is a Past President of the Onondaga County Dental Society.

Dr. Bourgeois’ awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Award (three awards), Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation (three awards), Battle Efficiency Award (two awards), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (two awards), and various other service and campaign ribbons.

Dr. Bourgeois is married to Mrs. Melissa Bourgeois and has two children, Madeline and Sidney.
