Robert J. Vitkus, DDS
In remembrance of our leader and mentor Dr. Robert J. Vitkus
Robert J. Vitkus, DDS was the founding doctor of Syracuse Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He was a highly regarded Oral Surgeon in the Syracuse area for over 25 years who was well-loved by his patients, partners, employees and colleagues. He was a meticulous oral surgeon with great expertise, as well as a trail blazer in the Syracuse area bringing new techniques and technology to the local oral surgery community.
He served his community not only through his private practice, but also through St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center, as well as being an active member of many professional dental organizations.
His passion for oral surgery was rivaled only by his love for the outdoors and the love he had for his family. He was an avid hunter and fly fisherman who always had his trusty hunting companions, Fred and Sadie his German Shorthaired Pointers, by his side. His great love for the outdoors is reflected in the gracious financial support he bequeathed to several Central New York organizations for the conservation of land, outdoor parks, recreational areas, watershed protection, public access, recreation, hunting, fishing and forest management.
He is remembered fondly by all who knew him and is greatly missed. We at Syracuse Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery are honored to be a part of carrying on his legacy in dentistry and oral surgery.
